A Bear is a coach’s dream athlete. Bears embody the exact attributes to be a dominant football player. Size, speed, agility, and intuitive instincts would allow a bear to dominate the gridiron. Deceptively fast for its size, a bear can reach up to 30 miles per hour. Long and extremely curved claws allow bears to climb trees, fish, and sprint with exceptional traction while moving laterally. Bears; a coach's dream, and a player's nightmare. The Baylor Uniform is also inspired by the culture and symbolism of the local Waco tribe. In Waco Native American culture, bears are symbolic of wisdom, nevertheless, an aggressive enforcer. Standing for courage, strength, and protection of life. If a Native American is given a name that included “Bear”, he is noted as brave among the tribe. The University of Baylor’s football uniform was designed to have a bold stance that complimented their fast and agile playing style. The bear paw design on the shoulder was the ideal spot to exhibit ferocity and protection, as bears are most feared standing on their hind legs. To speed up the uniform, I cropped stripes to streamline the traditional uniform stripe.
